Philip Maher, MD
My specialties:
- Family medicine
Professional interests:
- GLBT
- Preventive Medicine
- International medicine
- Women's Health
I am a board-certified family medicine physician with professional interests in GLBT health, women's health, preventive care and international medicine.
I knew I wanted to become a physician when: I was as a teacher in West Philadelphia and I wanted to do more for the people in my community.
Something I have learned from my patients is: that relationships and partnerships are the most important therapeutic intervention.
One of the best things I have done for my health was: to not have a car during my medical residency. That way, I was "forced" to bike to-and-from work.
If I wasn't a physician, I would be a: NASA scientist. I enjoy learning and investigating the universe.
My personal health goal is: to bike across the United States.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is: never knowing exactly what to expect when I walk through the door each day. It keeps me on my toes.
I am most proud of: my interest in self-learning. I'm teaching myself to play the violin, to speak the French language and how to repair bikes.
