I am a certified adult and geriatric medicine nurse practitioner with professional interests in primary care, gay men's health, GLBTQI population health, HIV care and prevention (PrEP), HPV, anal dysplasia, latent tuberculosis and travel medicine.
I am passionate about: providing culturally competent and sensitive care to a diverse adult and adolescent population that is both welcoming and inclusive of our GLBTQI patient communities. HIV care and prevention (PrEP).
I became a provider because: I have always wanted to work in the health care field. I started out as a nursing assistant, and became a nurse practitioner as I wanted to be an openly gay provider that is available to the GLBTQI patient population in the Twin Cities. Over my life, I have seen providers who are not gay and I didn't always have a complete and open relationship or connection with them.
One thing I have learned from my patients is: that I can not make them do anything; I can only partner with them, provide them with the tools and resources to help them optimize their health goals.
One of the best things I have done for my health is: quit smoking and joined a gym at the age of 40. A regular exercise regime has so helped me in the way I feel about myself, my body and reduced my overall stress level. Since then, I have run four marathons and countless half marathons.
