Margaret Funk, MD

I am a board-certified family medicine physician with professional interests in preventive medicine, child and adolescent care, GLBTQ health and women's health. I also speak Spanish.

I'm passionate about: learning about individual patients' and families’ needs. Everyone is different and their health goals reflect this. It’s a true privilege to provide medical care, and I enjoy my time most if I feel like we are working together on shared goals.

If I wasn't a provider, I would be a: baker. I remember baking cookies with my grandmother on many occasions when I was little, and I still enjoy making and sharing treats with others.

I became a doctor because: I wanted to go to work knowing that what I did that day could positively impact someone’s life. I wanted something that would always challenge me to grow and learn; medicine is certainly never boring. I also love family medicine because it allows for continued relationships with families over the years.

Something I have learned from my patients is: that our time in the clinic is far more impactful if I understand a bit about what someone’s life is like. Our health care does not happen in a vacuum.

One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is: that there is always something new to learn, both from research and from patients themselves.

My personal health goal is: to incorporate exercise in my day-to-day activities with my family.

The best thing I've done for my health is: to recognize the importance of sleep and prioritize enough time for rest. It changes my stress level and my whole outlook on the day.

I’m most proud of: my daughter. She makes me laugh every day. But I can’t take all the credit; she has a wonderful father and lovely grandparents.
