I am a native of North Dakota and finished my undergraduate degree at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. I attended the University of North Dakota Medical School for two years and then transferred to Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, graduating in 1965. I returned to Minnesota to perform my internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minneapolis. I began my fellowship in gastroenterology at the University in 1970. I served as Chief Resident of the Internal Medicine Department in 1971 and finished his gastroenterology fellowship at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in 1972.
I have an academic appointment at the University of Minnesota Medical School. I was appointed as an assistant clinical professor of medicine in 1973 and became an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine in 1983. I am a board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. I have participated in research studies sponsored by the National Institutes of Health on the effects of diet on the growth of the colon polyps. My special interests in gastroenterology include: esophageal and inflammatory bowel disease and colonoscopy.
In my leisure time, I like to golf, bike, ski, camp and hike. I also enjoy working on remodeling projects at my cabin.
