Why I became a physician: When ill as a baby, my mother sought help and several physicians discounted her concerns. Being a nurse, she obtained yet another opinion which was to proceed with surgery. Thereafter my health improved. This story has inspired me to listen carefully, seek minority opinions and search for novel solutions when customary medical practice fails.
